Frequently Asked Questions

We’re here to make your jewelry journey seamless, informed, and enjoyable.

Below, you’ll find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions, covering bespoke services, shipping, sizing, and care.

Still need help. Contact us — we’re happy to assist.

Q: What is the difference between Made To Order, Ready to Ship, and Bespoke pieces?

Ready-to-ship pieces are in stock and will ship within our standard processing time – ideal if you're looking for something beautiful, fast.

Made-to-Order designs are crafted specifically for you once your order is placed. These pieces typically take 3–6 weeks, depending on the complexity and craftsmanship involved.

Bespoke pieces are fully custom designed in collaboration with you. From sourcing stones to the final design, this is a one-on-one process that results in a truly one-of-a-kind creation. Learn more or start your bespoke journey here.

Q: What is the payment process for bespoke pieces?

Once you’ve selected your diamond or center stone, we require a 50% deposit within 24–48 hours to secure the stone and begin production of your piece.

We accept wire transfer, ACH, and credit card and offer financing options if you’d prefer a more flexible payment plan.

The remaining 50% balance is due before shipment.

If you have any questions about payment or would like assistance, our team is here to help — simply email bespoke@thomaslaine.com.

Q: What’s the typical timeline for a bespoke piece?

For bespoke designs, we recommend starting your diamond or gemstone selection 8–10 weeks prior to needing the finished piece. This ensures access to the most up-to-date stone options and allows ample time for thoughtful design decisions.

Once confirmed, your custom ring is handcrafted by our master jewelers, with production taking approximately 3–4 weeks.

If you're working with a tighter deadline, just let us know — we’ll always try to accommodate you where possible.

What about Diamond Ethics & Sourcing?

At Thomas Laine, we are committed to sourcing diamonds with integrity.
We work exclusively with trusted suppliers who comply with the Kimberley Process, ensuring all our diamonds are conflict-free and ethically sourced.

We believe in transparency, responsibility, and helping our clients make informed, values-driven decisions.

Q: Is all your jewelry made with real gemstones and metals?

Yes. We use only solid gold (never plated or filled), and all our gemstones and diamonds are hand-selected for quality, color, and character. Each piece is made with fine craftsmanship, using responsibly sourced materials.

Q: Where is your jewelry made?

Each piece is designed and crafted between our studios in New York and Dublin by master jewelers who specialize in both traditional techniques and modern innovation.

Q: Do you offer gift wrapping?

Yes — all Thomas Laine pieces arrive beautifully packaged in our signature boxes, ready for gifting. If you'd like to include a personal message, leave a note at checkout.

Q: Can I book a virtual appointment?

Absolutely. We offer complimentary, no-obligation virtual consultations to help you explore engagement rings, custom designs, or collection pieces. You can book an appointment here at a time that suits you.

Q: Can a ring be resized?

Yes — we’re happy to offer one complimentary resize for most in-stock rings. Additional resizes are available for a $90 fee.

Custom or made-to-order rings are crafted to your selected size and can be resized later for $90, if needed.

Resizing typically takes 7–10 business days, but if you're on a tighter timeline, please reach out — we’ll do our best to accommodate.

If you’re unsure about sizing or whether a specific style can be resized, our team is always here to advise.

Q: Are your stones GIA certified?

Yes — wherever possible, we provide GIA certification for our diamonds.

In some cases, such as with antique or vintage pieces, certification may not be possible without compromising the integrity of the setting. In these instances, we provide as much expert detail as possible.

For colored gemstones, we use trusted and internationally recognized laboratories, including GIA, AGL, and C. Dunaigre, to ensure accuracy, quality, and transparency.

Q: Do you offer payment plans?

Yes — we’re happy to offer flexible layaway options for select pieces, including engagement rings. We understand these are meaningful purchases, and we want to help you secure the piece you love.

Our plans can be extended for up to 60 days, and we’re also happy to split payments across multiple cards if needed.

Please note: Because layaway pieces are held exclusively and removed from sale, payments are non-refundable. These items are exchangeable but not eligible for return.

To arrange a plan that works for you, reach out to us at customerservice@thomaslaine.com — we’re here to help.

Q: Do you offer engraving on your rings?

Yes — we offer computer engraving to personalize your ring with a name, date, or message. It’s a meaningful way to add a personal touch and create a cherished heirloom.

Engraving typically ranges from $50–$70, depending on the length of your inscription.
Please note that thinner bands may have limited engraving space, and we do not currently offer hand engraving.

If you’d like to explore engraving options for your ring, please let us know — we’re happy to guide you through the process.

Q: Do you offer a warranty on your rings?

Yes — we stand behind the craftsmanship of every Thomas Laine piece.

All rings come with a complimentary warranty covering any manufacturing defects. For full details on what’s included, as well as information on repairs and care, please visit our Warranty & Repairs page.

If you ever have a concern about your piece, our team is here to help.

Q: Will an “Out of Stock” item be restocked?

It depends on the piece.

One-of-a-kind and vintage pieces are often set with antique or rare stones, which means they can’t be exactly replicated once sold. While we may not be able to source an identical diamond or gemstone, we’re always happy to help you find a similarly beautiful option.

For many of our signature or vintage-inspired designs, we can often recreate the style using a different antique or hand-selected stone.

If there’s a piece you’ve fallen for, reach out to us, we’ll gladly explore what’s possible together.

If you didn’t find the answer you were looking for, we’re here to help.
