Bespoke Terms and Conditions

A bespoke commission is built around trust as much as craftsmanship. The terms below set out how that process works in the same considered, unhurried tone as the rest of the Bespoke experience.
1. Pricing
Every commission is quoted in US dollars, confirmed in writing before work begins. The price covers sourcing, design and craftsmanship in full. Sales tax applies where a piece is collected or shipped within New York State. Given the movement of the diamond and gold markets, a quote is held for seven days.
2. Payment
A commission proceeds in three stages. A search fee of $500 opens the commission and reserves a place in the workshop schedule; it is redeemable against the final balance and becomes non-refundable once sourcing begins. The stone payment, due on approval of the chosen stone, covers its full cost. The remaining balance falls due on completion, ahead of collection or shipping. Each amount and its date are set out on the invoice, and work on a given stage begins only once payment has cleared.
3. Cancellations and refunds
Because each piece is designed and made for one person alone, bespoke commissions are non-returnable, non-refundable and non-exchangeable once underway. An order may be cancelled within five days of being placed, in writing. Beyond that point, or once sourcing has begun, the commission cannot be cancelled and payments made are not returned. The search fee is non-refundable once sourcing begins; the stone payment, once the stone is secured. Any damage should be reported in writing within five days of receipt, at which point the remedy is repair, replacement or refund of the piece itself.
4. Design approval
Sketches, CAD renderings or specifications are shared for written approval before manufacture begins. Two rounds of revision are included; further amendments may carry an additional cost and affect the timeline.
5. Design ownership
Every sketch, CAD file and concept remains the intellectual property of Thomas Laine. A commission secures the time, expertise and craftsmanship required to create a piece, rather than exclusive rights to the design itself, and certain elements may be revisited in future work. Each piece, however, is made to its owner’s brief alone.
6. Natural variation
Natural stones vary in shade and character from piece to piece. This variation is inherent to the material and falls outside what can be guaranteed.
7. Timeline
A commission typically takes four to six weeks from design sign-off and cleared stone payment to completion. Extended design discussions or delayed approvals will affect this timeline accordingly.
8. Collection and delivery
Completed pieces are available for collection by appointment, or may be shipped fully insured at cost. Care guidance is provided at the point of collection or delivery.
9. Warranty
Each piece carries a twelve-month warranty against faults in workmanship from the date of collection or delivery. This does not extend to general wear, accidental damage or alterations made elsewhere.
10. Photography
Finished pieces may be photographed for the Thomas Laine website and social channels, always after delivery. Any preference otherwise is respected on request.
11. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of New York.
